Mount Annan Botanical Gardens

Project type

Playspace Design

Date

February, 2021

Location

Mount Annan, NSW

Philippa Dunstan developed the concept plan, equipment specification, surface design, and planting palette for a new playground at Mount Annan Botanic Gardens, ensuring the design complemented the site's natural beauty.
The playground focused on blending into the existing landscape with a natural material palette and thoughtfully selected plantings. Custom-designed play equipment enhanced usability and included elements for sand play, climbing, and imaginative play.
Inclusive design was a priority, with features like a custom florist shop front designed for wheelchair accessibility and equipment choices that encouraged engagement for children of all abilities.
This project aimed to create a playful, welcoming space that reflected the spirit of the gardens while supporting creativity, exploration, and social interaction among visitors of all ages.

Wild Gardening acknowledges the Widjabul Wia-bal people of the Bundjalung Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work, here in Tuntable Creek. We pay our deepest respects to Elders past and present, and honour the ongoing connection First Nations people have to Country, culture, and community.

Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
